The Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI) is Russia’s leading scientific organization in the comprehensive study, assessment, and forecasting of the natural environment in the Arctic and Antarctic. The institute conducts fundamental and applied research in hydrometeorology and related fields, environmental monitoring, and provides services for operational hydrometeorological and ice safety support, permafrost condition monitoring, as well as organizing and conducting expeditionary research. Scientific infrastructure includes: Research vessels (RVs) Akademik Treshnikov, Akademik Fedorov, and Severny Polyus (North Pole), an experimental ice tank, Polar Geophysical Center, World Sea Ice Data Center, Cape Baranova Ice Base research station, Russian Scientific Center on the Spitsbergen Archipelago(Barentsburg), ten scientific stations in Antarctica, etc.
